Asbestos Hazard Management in North Carolina

Before You Renovate

Asbestos is a hazardous substance that was used in more than 3,000 different building materials.

Even today, some asbestos-containing products have not been completely banned. Testing should occur before planned renovation or demolition activities.

About the Asbestos Hazard Management Program

We work to reduce asbestos contamination and exposure caused by demolition and renovation projects. Our program is part of the Health Hazards Control Unit and:

  • Issues permits for asbestos removal projects, and demolition notifications.
  • Accredits people who perform asbestos management activities in N.C.
  • Inspects asbestos removal/renovation projects; ensures proper work practices.
  • Approves asbestos accreditation training courses; accredits training providers.
  • Shares how asbestos exposure can harm your health.
  • Gives talks/presentations about asbestos hazards, and N.C. rules for renovation and removal.
