Are you a recent graduate looking to gain experience in public health?
The NC Public Health Fellowship Program offers hands-on experience and continuous mentorship. Working alongside teammates, fellows make a difference in the lives of North Carolinians.
The program, offered by the state's Division of Public Health (DPH), helps fellows to qualify for state positions that require experience. DPH has more than 1,100 positions statewide, covering a variety of expertise and skill sets.
- New professionals who earned a bachelor's or master's degree in the last three years
- Major or course of study reflects requirements listed in position of interest
We are looking for candidates who have:
- A strong academic record
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work 40 hours/week
- A desire to work collaboratively as part of a team
- A genuine interest in advancing public health in North Carolina

Fellows gain hands-on work experience and work with others to make a meaningful difference in the lives of North Carolinians.

Our fellows complete the program with:
- A foundation of skills and confidence, and ability to excel in a public health career in NC
- An understanding of their role in the broader public health context
The program is supported by the North Carolina Institute for Public Health at the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health.
Employment details
- 11-month full-time temporary position through NC's Temporary Solutions program.
- High-deductible health insurance plan available within the first month of onboarding. No other benefits offered.
