Diabetes affects more than 1.3 million people in NC — and that number keeps growing. Even more people are at risk. About 1 in 3 adults has prediabetes. Prediabetes can often be prevented or reversed with healthy lifestyle changes.
This November, for Diabetes Awareness Month, take steps to lower your risk and help others do the same. Small changes can make a big difference.

A Statewide Effort to Improve Health
Across NC, the Diabetes Advisory Council brings together experts from public health, health care, education and community organizations. Their goal is to reduce the number of people affected by diabetes and make sure everyone has access to the care and support they need.
This year, NCDHHS also announced the expansion of the Minority Diabetes Prevention Program. This free statewide effort offers culturally responsive classes and community support. The program helps people eat better, be more active and lower their risk for type 2 diabetes.
