Screening Requirements

North Carolina healthcare providers are required to screen ALL pregnant persons for syphilis at:

  • The first prenatal visit,
  • Between 28-30 weeks gestation, and
  • Delivery.

This requirement is irrespective of the local rate of syphilis or perceived risk for infection.
