Discussion and Rational
Chloro Glass Sanitizer, EPA Registration Number 65169-1 was re-evaluated and approved by EPA to be used as a disinfectant on Dec. 14, 2012. The new label reads “Chloro Glass Sanitizer and Disinfectant.” The approval for use included directions for general disinfection which requires the surfaces to remain wet for 10 minutes.
Response / Interpretation
In a memorandum dated Feb. 8, 2010, A2B Alternative to Bleach Disinfectant EPA registration number 65169-1 (currently known as Chloro Glass) was approved as a disinfectant with a 2-minute contact time in accordance with EPA guidelines. In March of 2010, EPA reported that data had not been submitted to support a broadspectrum disinfection claim for Chloro Glass. Therefore, the company was required to delete the disinfection claim and remove these label instructions until efficacy data was submitted and the product was re-evaluated. On Dec. 14, 2012, Choro Glass Sanitizer, EPA Registration Number 65169-1 was re-evaluated and approved by EPA as a disinfectant, however, with a 10-minute contact time. Since the change of labeling by Iofina Chemical Inc., the manufacturer opted not to complete the additional required testing in order to claim the 2-minute contact time when used as a disinfectant. Therefore, Choro Glass Sanitizer when used as a sanitizer has a 2- minute contact time, but when used as a disinfectant has a 10-minute contact time.
