Update on CDC Approved Hepatitis B Vaccination Recommendations

Yesterday, on December 16, 2025, the acting CDC director signed off on the ACIP recommendation to move to shared clinical decision making for Hepatitis B vaccination in children whose mothers tested negative during pregnancy. At this time, no impacts to vaccine availability or coverage are anticipated for VFC providers.

We wanted to provide an update from our December 9th, ACIP Hep B Vaccination Recommendation Communication

Yesterday, on December 16, 2025, the acting CDC director signed off on the ACIP recommendation to move to shared clinical decision making for Hepatitis B vaccination in children whose mothers tested negative during pregnancy. At this time, no impacts to vaccine availability or coverage are anticipated for VFC providers. North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) is reaffirming that vaccinations play a vital role in safeguarding the health and well-being and help protect children, their families and entire communities from the spread of infectious diseases like hepatitis B, measles, pertussis and others.
