This email shares the latest updates on the new North Carolina Immunization Registry (NCIR), a modernized system NC DHHS is implementing to support providers and partners. Below, you’ll find an overview of current progress, what to expect next, and how to prepare.

The new NCIR is scheduled to go-live summer 2026, and we will provide you with regular updates and as we get closer to support you during this transition. This is the first in a series of communications. Please ensure this information is shared with all NCIR users at your facility.

NCIR users who do not currently receive VaccineInfo emails should subscribe to NCIR communications to receive future updates and guidance on the new system. Information can also be found on the NCIR Website.

Where Are We Now?

Over the last year, the project team has focused on completing the foundational activities to ensure the new system is stable, tested, and ready for implementation such as:

  • Confirming that the system is ready for use and that information is accurate prior to launch

  • Preparing the system and ensuring all components function together as intended

  • Verifying that information flows correctly between systems and that reports remain reliable

  • Developing targeted training to support a smooth transition to the new NCIR

What Can You Do To Prepare?

We will offer targeted training sessions to support a smooth transition to the new system, with schedule details shared soon. In the meantime, providers should prepare by performing the following activities:

  • Regularly review and reconcile inventory

  • Routinely identify and transfer wasted/expired inventory

  • Periodically review user access and deactivate inactive accounts

  • Prepare to set up multi-factor authentication (more details coming soon)

Ensuring that your inventory and user data is up-to-date and accurate will allow for a more seamless data transfer to the new system.

Note to data exchange providers: You will not have to re-establish your connection with data exchange. Only the end-point connection will change, and we will be coordinating with EHR/EMR vendors to make those changes. There shouldn’t be any disruptions to your operations during this process.

How to contact us:

We appreciate your cooperation and commitment to making this transition successful, and we are excited for what’s ahead.
