About the Well Contractors Certification Commission
The Well Contractors Certification Commission was established by the North Carolina General Assembly in 1997. The enabling legislation established a seven-member commission.

About appointments and qualifications
Commissioners are appointed by the Governor, House or Senate. General Statutes 143B-301.12 specifies for each seat on the Commission, what basic criteria that person must meet to be selected, and who will appoint them. Commissioners serve a three-year term and may be reappointed but for no more than two consecutive terms.
Members of the commission must meet the following qualifications:
- Two members are environmental health professionals, actively engaged in well inspection and permitting.
- One member is appointed by the governor from the Public at Large.
- Four members are certified well contractors from designated areas of the state. Two are engaged primarily with domestic water supply wells, one with large capacity water supply wells, and one with non-water supply wells, such as monitoring or recovery wells.
